TANJUNG MALIM: The JobsMalaysia Career and Skills Carnival offered 9,045 vacancies from 25 employers for job seekers within the Mualim district that also covers the Slim state constituency, says Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
The Human Resources Minister said the one-day carnival was a continuous program for the people to find jobs and to bring down the unemployment rate.
“I have asked the Manpower Department to make this career and skills carnival a continuous program so that the unemployment rate can be lowered.
“Malaysians are still choosy when it comes to jobs, so do not waste available opportunities when there are good openings,” he told reporters after launching the event in Slim River near here yesterday.
Commenting on MIC’s campaign for the Slim by-election, Saravanan, who is the party’s deputy president, said they had embarked on a house-to-house campaign to help Barisan Nasional’s candidate Mohd Zaidi Aziz.
“The scenario is different compared to GE14. We have seen a change in the mindset of voters, especially the support of the Indian community towards the MIC.
“Although Independent candidate (S. Santhasekaran) is an Indian, I was informed that the majority of Indians are with Barisan.
“As the ruling government now, we can put them in a better position than this before,” he added.
Indians make up 12% of the voters in the Slim state constituency.
Saravanan said he was confident that Mohd Zaidi would win with a bigger majority.
The Slim by-election will see a three-cornered fight between Mohd Zaidi and two Independent candidates, Santhasekaran and Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi, who was nominated by Parti Pejuang Tanahair, the newly formed party that is in the process of being registered.
A total of 23,094 voters is eligible to vote on Aug 29.
The seat fell vacant following the death of its four-term assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, who died from a heart attack on July 15. — Bernama
