Kuala Lumpur | GMG, the Middle East region’s premier and one of the fastest-growing conglomerates, is on a mission to attract and nurture top talent as it expands its footprint in Southeast Asia. The recent participation in the Malaysia Career & Training Fair (MCTF) served as a prime platform to showcase GMG’s core values, mission, vision, and current job opportunities. In January 2023, GMG unveiled its Asian headquarters in Malaysia to tap into Asia’s thriving sports retail market.
GMG is a global well-being company retailing, distributing, and manufacturing a portfolio of leading international and home-grown brands across sports, everyday goods, health and beauty, properties, and logistics sectors.
Mohammad A. Baker, GMG’s Deputy Chairman and CEO, emphasized the company’s focus on fostering innovation and excellence among its employees, stated, “We believe in transforming our consumers’ lives by providing them with the best products and enhancing their shopping experience. We cultivate a ‘born to win’ attitude by investing in our people. As we continue to expand globally, we understand how crucial it is to nurture young local talent from the region, who will be the pillars of success for GMG and the country’s economy.”
GMG aims to open 100 new stores by 2025, and this translates into several job opportunities for Malaysians who are within sales, marketing, internal coordination, planning and logistics, store operations, human resources, training, finance and administration, inventory management, procurement, buying, and information technology among several other domains.
As GMG solidifies its presence in Malaysia and the broader SEA region, it is also committed to implementing strategic initiatives to nurture local talent and contribute to local economies, exemplified by its participation in MCTF. GMG will also impart training to retail workers by teaching them about the company’s portfolio of products and consumer behaviours. This is in addition to cross-functional knowledge sharing and best practices, for instance, teaching salespeople about cashier roles and responsibilities and vice versa.
Mahboob Ur Rahman, Vice President – Finance for Asia at GMG, stressed the importance of hiring individuals eager to learn and evolve, saying, “When a candidate joins GMG, they become an integral part of our legacy. GMG empowers individuals to achieve excellence in every endeavour while fostering a profound commitment to enriching the global community. GMG’s unwavering support extends far beyond the realm of skill, embracing and nurturing individuals eager to embark on transformative learning and personal growth journeys. Our business in Asia has grown exponentially since we entered
Asia at the end of 2020, and we have been working towards further growth. This is why hiring and training skilled and talented individuals who will be a good fit for the company is imperative.”
At MCTF, the GMG booth attracted over 2,500 visitors. Furthermore, GMG organized various engaging activities and initiatives designed to leave a lasting impression on participants. These included on-site interviews with prospective candidates, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their skills and qualifications firsthand. To infuse an element of fun and camaraderie, GMG organized interactive games that encouraged networking and teamwork, allowing candidates to connect on a deeper level. The tokens of appreciation served as tangible reminders of GMG’s commitment to valuing and nurturing talent, leaving participants with a positive and lasting impression of the company’s culture and ethos.
Overall, GMG’s presence at MCTF left candidates inspired, motivated, and eager to explore opportunities within the organization.
