KUALA LUMPUR: A company executive has claimed trial to a charge of inciting his boss to terminate an employee for providing information to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Wafiy Abd Aziz, 35, who is a deputy director of an education company, pleaded not guilty.
He was charged at the Sessions Court here under Section 10(3)(b) of the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010, which carries a fine of not more than RM100,000 or a jail term of up to 15 years or both, if found guilty.
This is the first time a person is being charged under the Act since it came into force a decade ago.
Wafiy is accused of inciting the company’s chairman to terminate the employment of a 63-year-old employee after he provided information to MACC.
The prosecution was carried out by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Afif Ali while Wafiy was represented by Siti Sarah Khalid.
The judge allowed bail of RM15,000 and barred Wafiy from speaking to other witnesses throughout the trial.
The trial has been set for Oct 20.
