KUALA LUMPUR | Contrary to what many think, Lotus Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Lotus’s Malaysia) is not planning job cuts. Instead, it will continue to hire more workers to support its growth plans.
Allaying concerns about the employment status of Tesco Malaysia employees following the acquisition of the hypermarket, Lotus’s president Kenneth Chua said the company would hire 200 new locals at its Bukit Beruntung, Selangor distribution centre (DC) to show its commitment to creating employment in the country.
“The pandemic has put many people out of jobs and in support of the government’s initiative to create employment for Malaysians, we are offering 200 permanent positions to jobseekers at our Bukit Beruntung DC,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the Bukit Beruntung DC and Simpang Pulai, Perak DC have been fully managed and operated by Malaysians since November 2020 as a response to the government’s call in creating employment for Malaysians following the high unemployment rate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lotus’s Malaysia acquired Tesco Malaysia in December 2020 and has since assumed the operations of all existing Tesco stores.
