KUALA LUMPUR | Manulife Malaysia continues to spread Christmas cheer through its Dear Santa project which, in its fourth year, came to the orang asli community in Kampung Sungai Ruai, Pahang on Dec 14.

Manulife senior management members and volunteers brought armloads of decorations, presents and painting equipment to create a festive atmosphere and give a new coat of paint to the village community hall cum classroom.

The children repaid the kind gesture – which included Manulife incentives for top-performing youngsters — by performing carols.

It was a joy to see the children happy, said Manulife chief executive officer, Lee Sang Hui, while adding in a statement today that “we always look for ways to involve the staff in volunteering”.

The merriment is thanks to Manulife’s corporate social responsibility flagship programme, Orang Asli Education Support.

While collaborating with the Kasih Selangor Community Organisation (PKKS), it has supported the education of 133 orang asli children from five villages: Kampung Sungai Ruai, Kampung Ulu Ruai, Kampung Sungai Kelang, Kampung Satak and Kampung Bertang.

It has also given financial support to teachers to conduct after-school classes and helped make daily transportation for the children to get to school a reality. – BERNAMA
