KUALA LUMPUR | The Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) has developed a new learning and development scheme targeted at the country’s B40 group.
The B40 Capacity Building Scheme (B40 CaB) is aimed at assisting workers in the B40 category with specific skills and knowledge to enable them to secure employment, gain entrepreneurship and earn better income.
Human Resources Minister M. Kula Segaran said the government was committed to focusing on the enhancement of workforce skills as well as technical skills.
“The goal of the scheme, which is in line with the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), is to improve the people’s economy and to support an inclusive progress.
“The Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) is worrying because many workers in our nation are not prepared for it and are not highly skilled. Therefore, this initiative is here to encourage them to get skilled.
“Out of the 15.5 million population, only 28 per cent of workers here are well skilled. Employers are urged to give training opportunities to their employees because automation, blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming a threat to workers worldwide,” he told reporters at the HRDF Hari Raya open house.
HRDF will be running several pilot projects with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health prior to the official implementation of the scheme next month.
Asked about the status of the new laws being prepared for domestic workers, Kula Segaran said the ministry was still in the process of getting the necessary approvals.
“It is not easy to make amendments to an act. There are many things to look into so it will take time but I am in the process of doing it,” he said.
