Citi Malaysia has announced a series of new parent-friendly employee benefits – effectively doubling the amount of maternity and paternity leave, as well as doubling the amount of enrollment of children at its childcare facility.

The new benefits are effective 1 October 2019, and include the following:

  • Maternity leave increased from 90 days to 180 days.
  • Paternity leave increased from five days to 10 days.
  • 90 days’ fully-paid adoption leave for female employees who are legally adopting a child below two years old.
  • Citikids Care childcare centre capacity increased from 74 kids to 144 kids with over 10,000 square feet premises. The centre was inaugurated in 2010, and it will be able to cater to children between the ages of 2.5-6 years old.

The benefits apply to the 5,000 employees of Citi Malaysia. About 83% of this workforce comprises Millennials, while women make up 64% of Citi Malaysia’s workforce.

Nisha Padbidri, Country Human Resources Officer, Citi Malaysia noted the new benefits are aligned to Citi’s focus on building an inclusive and progressive work culture.

She added: “The enhancement was also in response to our annual voice of the employee survey. It is about employee satisfaction and creating a work culture that strongly supports diversity and is reflective of the progressive society that we live in today.”

The announcement follows further benefits in 2018, wherein Citi’s APAC markets and securities services (MSS) business launched the Maternity Matters programme, aimed at retaining more female employees post-maternity across its business.
