PETALING JAYA | Families of two deceased staff members of Star Media Group received payouts from the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Socso Selangor deputy director Mohammad Ramli Ahmad Dahalan and executive officer Mohamad Faizul Hadzri Zakaria presented mock cheques for RM2,000 each to the widows of Ganesan Palany @ Palanysamy and R. Ravindran for funeral expenses, on Tuesday.

In addition, Ganesan’s widow, Saraswathy Velu, 55, and his 15-year-old daughter Sanghari will receive a monthly benefit under Socso’s survivors’ pension scheme.

“Without my husband, I don’t know how to raise my three children. At least, with the money, I can ensure they all focus on their studies, ” said Saraswathy.

Ganesan also leaves behind two sons, Pavithieran, 24, and Nithiran, 21, who are both still pursuing their studies.

Ravindran’s widow K. Seetha, 55, will also receive a monthly benefit.

Although her sons Paarthiban, 33, and Venggadeshwaran, 29, are both employed, Seetha said it was still difficult for the family to cope without her husband.

“I am very grateful for the contribution and also thankful to Ravi’s employer and colleagues for all the help, ” she said.

Mohammad Ramli said it was not easy for families to get long-term financial assistance and he hoped the payout could help the families, especially when the deceased was the sole breadwinner.

Also present were the company’s group people assistant manager Mahendraraj Mariappan and executive Surendran Verasena.

Socso’s survivors’ pension scheme provides payouts to contributors’ widow or widower and children aged 21 and below, where the cause of death is not directly related to employment.

Ganesan, who joined Star Media Group in 2003, was the assistant chief driver while Ravindran, fondly known as Ravi among colleagues, started out as a member of the packing staff in 1982. He was manager 2, technical services at the time of his passing.

Ganesan and Ravi, both 57, suffered heart attacks in October.
