PETALING JAYA | Foreign workers in Klang and Seremban will start their mandatory Covid-19 screening on Dec 1, while those in other zones will be screened in later weeks, says Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (pic).

The Human Resources Minister said the screenings would take place in stages, with focus given to districts that are high-risk.

The screenings would take place for foreign workers in Klang and Seremban starting Dec 1 while other red zones in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Penang would begin their screenings on Dec 9.

The non-red zones in Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan, as well as the entire states of Sabah and Labuan, would start on Dec 16.

Saravanan added that the screening programme for foreign workers would be targeted based on red zone localities that have dense populations of migrant workers.

“To enable this programme to be conducted in a comprehensive manner, the Covid-19 screening will be carried out by the Social Security Organisation (Socso), with the cooperation of private hospitals and clinics.

“The screening test will be using the Rapid Test Kit Antigen (RTK Antigen) method that has been approved by the Health Ministry, with the costs of the test kits borne by Socso.

“The employer only has to bear the service costs that the clinic or hospital charges.

“For migrant workers who are not Socso contributors, the screening costs must be borne entirely by the employers, ” he said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 28).

He added that the programme will be enforced by the Human Resources Ministry under the Workers Housing and Accommodation Minimum Standard Act 1990, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among migrant workers.
