BUTTERWORTH: Some 200 factory workers staged a protest outside Jinko Solar Technology Sdn Bhd here this morning, demanding for a public apology following a video clip allegedly uploaded by a member of the management team that label them as “rubbish”.
The group gathered as early as 8.30am and refused to budge until the factory’s production manager openly apologised to them about an hour later.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the protest stemmed from a viral posting which was uploaded onto a Facebook page along with screenshots of WhatsApp exchanges, labelling the workers as “rubbish”.
“The workers also met with the factory’s management and agreed to disperse with the conditions that the production manager publicly apologised, a review of their salaries and allowances, and more flexible working hours.
“After an hour of protest, the production manager finally met with a representative of the workers and apologised,” he said, adding that everyone dispersed about 10.30am without any untoward incident.
It is learnt that the video clip has since been deleted.
Nik Ros Azhan said several dissatisfied workers had lodged a police report over the matter.
