SIBU | About 40 workers of a plantation company staged a demonstration at the plantation premises in Kanowit on Thursday (14 November 2019).

Kanowit District police chief DSP Tega Bilong said initial investigation revealed that the workers were demanding the payment of the balance of the overtime allowance for the security guards, amounting to RM698.28 each.

“Moreover, they’re also demanding for increased overtime allowance and other incentives.

“The general workers demanded that they be paid on daily basis, instead of on contractual basis,” he said in the press statement.

Tega said police did not find any evidence of political instigation in the demonstration.

“We managed to bring the situation under control, before the crowd dispersed peacefully at about 8am,” he added.
